To whom it may concern,
Regarding the status of the renewal of the active substance Pyrethrins (Chrysanthemum cinerari-aefolium, ext.), specifically, regarding an entry on the ECHA website and the Commission Imple-menting Decision (EU) 2020/1036 that stated the non-approval of this active substance in biocidal products.
To clarify the situation please see our explanations below:
During the renewal process under the BPR (Regulation (EU) No 528/2012) there have been a lot of discussions regarding the substance name for the active substance Pyrethrins. Since it is a natural extract, the competent authorities decided that a change of the name was needed. The name “Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium” was chosen and because there are two methods of extraction (supercritical carbondioxide and hydrocarbon solvents), a distinction between the two obtained extracts was made:
The latter substance is the one that we, the Kenya Pyrethrum Information Company GmbH & Co. KG, support as an active substance for PT18. As you can see on the list of Biocidal Active Substances on the website of ECHA (https://echa.europa.eu/de/information-on-chemicals/biocidal-active-substances), the status of this substance is still in progress (“Opinion development by BPC”).
In the context of the approval process mentioned above, negotiations are now continuing on the exact name to be chosen. The decision as to whether the entire name of the active ingredient, a shortened form or possibly a completely new variant can/must be printed on labels, safety data sheets etc. is still pending.
The CAS No. 89997-63-7 (EC/List no 289-699-3) applies to the active substance/substance name we offer you.
Therefore, we can confirm, that the active substance Pyrethrins/ Chrysanthemum cinerariaefoli-um, extract from open and mature flowers of Tanacetum cinerariifolium obtained with hydrocar-bon solvents will be supported and approved for products of PT18.
We will keep you updated on any relevant news regarding the approval process.
